This contract is for Percussion/Drums only. If you are interested in playing percussion/drums please read this and return the percussion contract.
The Lincoln Band Program always strives to create a well balanced group while trying to give students opportunities to play the instruments that they wish to play. Percussion is a popular, important instrument in the band and we try to make sure there are as many spots as possible for students.. Due to its unique qualities I feel it necessary to provide students and parents with an overview on what being a drummer/percussionist in a band is all about. Therefore, please read this letter and sign the percussion contract stating that you understand the information on this page. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to email me at [email protected].Sincerely, Mr. Casale
Percussion InformationPercussion is very different from all the other instruments in the band. Woodwind and brass players play one instrument all the time. However, drummers must be willing to play all the different percussion instruments at the school and take turns on them to allow everyone a chance to play during class. All drummers get the opportunity to play a percussion part being worked on at least once during regular band classes. These percussion parts include maracas, sleigh-bells, cymbals, tambourine, snare drum, bass drum and drum set among many others. The percussion section must take turns, because if all the drummers were to play at the same time we would not hear any of the other instruments in the band. All drummers should have a snare drum or bell kit, practice pad, drum sticks and mallets of their own. They should bring these back and forth to school for class. As the year progresses, and when we are focusing on more songs for the concert, it will become appropriate for them to play the percussion instruments that we have in the classroom. Before each concert there are afterschool concert practices. Every drummer who attends the concert practice will get to play at least one percussion instrument on at least one song during the performance. Which instrument they play during a concert will be determined by ability and work habits during class. If a drummer misses the concert practice he/she is not guaranteed to play at all during the concert, because all parts are finalized during this final practice. If a drummer practices, works hard in class, has good work habits and is responsible he/she will have a lot of fun, become a trained musician and become experienced as a percussionist in the band.If there is an abundance of percussionist’s students may need to take a test to keep their spot and may be encouraged to select a different instrument. Thank You, Mr. Casale
